BREAKING: Jerome Powell OFFICIALLY Referred to DOJ on Criminal Charges of…
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is now facing a political storm of his own making, and conservatives are not letting this one slip through the cracks. At the center of the controversy lies a pair of statements made under oath before the Senate Banking Committee.
Both are now being challenged as outright falsehoods, and one Republican lawmaker is taking matters into her own hands.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida has submitted a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, requesting a full investigation into Powell’s sworn testimony.
According to Luna, Powell misled Congress in a manner that violates federal laws governing perjury and false statements. The allegations are serious. They are also long overdue.
During the June 25 hearing, Powell told senators that the Fed’s $2.5 billion Eccles Building renovation included no “luxury features.”
He also insisted the building had not undergone a significant renovation since its construction in 1937. Both claims fell apart almost immediately.
Documents show the Eccles Building received a major overhaul between 1999 and 2003. That is not ancient history. It is within living memory, and Powell certainly should have known. Equally damning are the design plans for the current project. They are loaded with extravagant features.
Those blueprints detail a rooftop terrace, a VIP dining room, Italian marble finishes, private gardens, and even imported designer beehives for decorative purposes. These are not standard-issue government fixtures. They are features straight out of a billionaire’s playbook.
The price tag alone ought to be enough to raise questions. At a time when inflation battered working families and the economy wobbled under Joe Biden’s failed leadership, the Federal Reserve chose to transform its headquarters into a palace. The hypocrisy is staggering.
Powell’s testimony, stripped of context, might appear routine. But when contrasted with documented evidence, it becomes indefensible. That is precisely why Luna is pushing the DOJ to act. She wants the Justice Department to enforce the law equally, regardless of title or position.
Powell’s defenders argue that he may have simply “misspoken.” But that excuse does not fly in a courtroom. Under federal statutes, a lie under oath is a felony, and ignorance is no defense. If the average citizen cannot lie under oath, neither can the Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
The allegations fall under two sections of federal law. The first is 18 U.S. Code § 1621, covering perjury. The second is 18 U.S. Code § 1001, which deals with making false statements to federal officials. Both carry steep penalties. More importantly, both protect the integrity of the Republic.
Rep. Luna made it clear that this is not about political revenge. Powell was appointed during the Trump administration. This is about truth and transparency. It is about holding every official accountable to the American people.
In her official statement, Luna said, “These were not minor misstatements. Powell misled Congress about a multi-billion-dollar taxpayer-funded project. This is a matter of public trust.” Her words echo the growing frustration felt by millions across the country.
This scandal represents more than just another Washington blunder. It exposes a dangerous culture of entitlement within the federal bureaucracy. When elites think they can lie without consequence, the Republic suffers.
Senator Tim Scott also voiced concern, pointing to inconsistencies in Powell’s statements. He raised doubts about how a project of this magnitude, packed with luxury amenities, could be dismissed as mundane. It is a valid question, and one Powell has yet to answer.
Even more troubling is the media’s refusal to cover the story with any seriousness. If this were a Trump appointee caught lying to protect a political agenda, the legacy media would be breathless with outrage. But because it is Jerome Powell, the silence is deafening.
This is precisely why conservatives must continue to apply pressure. Washington insiders do not police themselves. If the American people want honesty and fairness, they must demand it at every level.
Powell’s central role in shaping U.S. monetary policy makes this issue even more consequential. The man controlling interest rates cannot be allowed to operate in the shadows. Integrity in testimony is a baseline requirement, not a bonus feature.
In the past, Powell clashed with conservative lawmakers for refusing to cut interest rates aggressively during Donald Trump’s presidency. He also embraced globalist monetary policies that prioritized international markets over American families.
Under Joe Biden’s administration, Powell operated with little accountability. The Eccles renovation project became a symbol of elitism and disconnect. Lavish spending, no oversight, and zero humility defined the operation.
The American people are not asking for miracles. They are asking for honesty. They are asking that public officials speak the truth under oath. That is not partisan. That is foundational to our entire legal system.
What Powell did, if proven true, was lie. And a lie under oath is not just unethical. It is criminal. The DOJ must respond to this referral and act with the same urgency it applies to less powerful individuals.
