Michael Strahan Refused To Apologize For His Politics

Michael Strahan is best known for his time with the New York Giants, winning a Super Bowl over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, but he’s become even bigger than a football player.

The former NFL star continues to stay close to the sport. Strahan works as an analyst for Fox Sports during the fall and winter. However, he also serves as a co-host of “Good Morning America” on ABC. Strahan has also launched several notable businesses, including a clothing line.

If you’re looking for an example of someone who has thrived post-NFL retirement, it’s Strahan.

However, last year, Strahan faced controversy, due to his decision on the national anthem while on a military base.

The former NFL star did not put his hand over his heart during the national anthem during a show on the U.S. Naval Base in San Diego. Strahan and the rest of his crew were at the base in honor of Veterans Day.

Strahan was the only man on the pregame show, which also featured Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Jay Glazer, Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Johnson, to not place his hand on his heart.

The former NFL star took a lot of heat for his decision. However, he has made it clear where he stands politically, refusing to apologize for it.

Michael Strahan Responds to National Anthem Criticism

“I have nothing to protest, I have no statement to be made,” Strahan said on Instagram. The only statement that should be made that I want to make is I love the military, I’ve always loved the military and I will always love the military. I do so many programs to help veterans and soldiers. I grew up on a military base with a father who was a major in the army. My brother, my sister, my cousins, they all served in the military — I’m a military brat.

“And so the fact of somebody saying that, you know, I’m unpatriotic, couldn’t be any further from the truth.”

While Strahan refused to apologize, most agreed that he didn’t need to.

“It’s kind of ridiculous to be completely honest. First of all, Mike has a deep, deep respect for the military. He’s done a lot of work in the veteran nonprofit space. He’s a military brat. You know, he grew up around this. This is part of his life,” former NFL player Nate Boyer told TMZ.
